Origin:
the apple tree story is very old; it seems that its center of origin is located in a mountainous region of South-East of China, where, through the propagation of the species Malus sieversii, would develop the cultivation of wild apple (Malus communis silvestris) and later of other species such as Malus communis, which is the main fruit species. The 90% pf Piedmontese apple varieties is cultivated in the foothill level between Pinerolo and Cuneo (in particular in Cavour and in Verzuolo).
The fruit:
spherical or ovoid false fruit, of various size and colors: from green to yellow to pink to red with a uniform or two-tone color.
Maturation:
August 15 – October 30
Flavor:
it can vary from sweet aromatic to acid, depending on the variety.
Curiosity:
the apple seeds contain amygdalin, a cyanide and glucose-based substance. The apple is present in many myths, tales and fables like that of Snow White by the Brothers Grimm. The “Big Apple” is the name by which New York is known throughout the world.
It's good because:
apples are rich in minerals, fiber and vitamins; They are therefore particularly nutritious and have a very low calorie content. Among their organoleptic properties there is that of regulating the intestinal flora. In addition, apples (and especially the red ones) contain polyphenols, antioxidants that go to neutralize free radicals and act on the stress oxidative mechanisms responsible for vascular diseases, aging processes and tumors.
